When the coastal road was expanded and improved back in 2015, Ninh Thuan's coast was discovered by the kitesurfers who were staying in Mui Ne. Since that time, the province has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best destinations in the world for the sport.
Two major professional kitesurfing events have been
About 30 kms north of Phan Rang (20kms from the house) is an amazing tidal reef that leads to flatwater conditions. Outside the reef form clean breaking waves perfect for wave riders.
Several kite schools with accommodations and food sit on the lagoon and during the winter hundreds of people from around the world hand out, socialize, and kite.
The wind is best in the winter months (Nov - Mar) but it is possible to kite in the spring and summer when the tides and the wind are both high.
It is a tidal reef so it can be shallow much of the time and empty of water at low tides. It is best to check with the schools about the tides, but typically in the winter the high tides are in the afternoon when the wind is the best. The summer can have low tides in the afternoon and less wind in the mornings.
Ninh Chu Bay is near the city of Phan Rang where resorts and hotels line the beach next to the public parks. The bay is a crescent allowing for kiting no matter what the wind direction. In the winter when the wind comes from the north, the south side of the bay is a popular spot (near Long Thuan Resort)
It is the spring/summer time when the conditions are ideal. A steady thermal wind around 18 knots arrives from the south from 10 am most days and stops around 5 pm. The best kiting is from the center to the north side of the bay at this time.
The water is deeper and it is perfect for foiling.
